Quote of the Day: Shel Silverstein

"Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be."

There Is Still Time To Make a Personal Christmas Gift

from: ...

Gift Tips.
Make a Present List. This is a powerful tool to get you organized and ensures that no-one will be missed. Head up another page in your exercise book *Christmas Gifts* then write the name of everyone you need to buy for and write an approximate amount of money you will spend on each person.

When it comes to gift giving whether it be for Christmas or otherwise, I always think of items I can make. Besides giving gifts of food I create things out of recycled clothing. Take denim jeans, instead of tossing them out when they get a little worn, I save them. I wash them. cut away the parts that are hopeless and salvage the good parts.

I cut strips from the good denim and sew them together and make log cabin design quilts. They are beautiful if there are many shades of denim. I cut the legs off the pants, sew the seat part shut, add a belt through the belt loops and you have a carryall for books, knitting supplies or just about anything. Sew pockets on the inside to hold cell phones, calculators or whatever.

Gift Tips.
Wrapping always makes the difference. All of us like to receive our Christmas gifts wrapped in a nice and presentable manner for it shows the thought that goes into the gift.

I make place mats from denim pieces. I sew a pocket from a pair of jeans on one side to hold silverware. Pot holders are simple. I cut around a pocket on a pair of jeans the size that I want my pot holder to be. I leave the pocket open and sew a quilted piece onto the back. It sure is nice to have a pocket to keep your hand in while holding a hot pot.

I have sewn pillow covers from used denim material. It is already soft from being used and kids love them for their bedrooms especially if they already have one of my denim quilts. They will bring me some of their old denim clothing and ask if I will make something for them. I always tell them I will, but they must wait for Christmas.

Gift Tips.
Ask the person if you have to. Do not be afraid to ask what the receiver thinks of the best Christmas gift.

Everything I write about is from personal observation and life experiences. I love to cook and prepare foods in different ways. I like sharing my experiences about food and cooking. My website http://www.pothaven.com was created because of my interest in quality cookware and cooking.
